Parent Guidelines - What Every Parent Should Know
1.21.05

No Jewelry

No jewelry of any kind may be worn during practice or games. If your child wants to get their ears pierced, wait until the season is over, as they will be required to remove all jewelry prior to practice or a game. Taping over the jewelry is no longer allowed. This is to protect your child as well as others on the field.

Zero Tolerance - Abuse of Referees

NYSL has a strict, no abuse policy with regard to referees. Bad calls are a part of the game, but these were nothing compared to the embarrassing spectacles that occur when well meaning parents forget this is a recreational league. NYSL is about having fun. Most of our referees will also be kids. I'm sure no parent would want their youngster verbally attacked. Please keep that in mind when the ref misses one.

Details on the Zero Tolerance policy are available by clicking the zero tolerance link.

NYSL Can Not Authorize Emergency Treatment

Please be aware, should an injury or emergency occur, you child cannot be treated without your permission. Your registration with the league is not a medical waiver. In addition, should the practice be terminated early due to lightening, your child must leave the field immediately. If you must leave the park, please be sure you provide your Coach or Team Manager a cell phone number or other way for you to be reached.

Concession Stand Duty

Every team is responsible to volunteer one two-hour shift in the concession stand. Your Team Manager will be asked to choose your team's date and time. Weekday slots are reserved for the age groups U12 and above because they often travel for games. The younger groups are asked to fill the weekend slots. There should be two parent volunteers from each team per hour. Revenue from the concessions stand is vital to funding the activities of NYSL and helps to keep costs down. Please do your part when your Team Manager asks for volunteers.

Please Be On Time

Please do your best to be on time for practices and games. With over 1,100 children playing soccer in one place, scheduling is important. Not only are the fields scheduled, but so are the referees. If one game starts late, it impacts many other games. If your going to be late or miss a practice or game, let your coach know, so they can make adjustments as needed.

Lightening and Field Closure

In the event of bad weather, you can contact the Weather Hotline for information on field conditions and field closures. In most cases, the fields will remain open during light rain. Heavy rain leading to waterlogged fields, or lightening will close the fields. If lightening is seem at any time, the fields will be closed. This means everyone must leave the fields. You will not be allowed to gather around the concession stand, or under the shelters. You must leave the fields.

Cheer Like Crazy!

Your team WILL respond to your excitement! Be positive and encouraging! Leave the coaching to the coach. Learn the names of everyone on the team and cheer for them by name. Be sure to compliment good play by either team. Remember at NYSL, "Fun is our Goal!"
